Maul, Maul, Maul
Everything you wanted to know about the maul but were too afraid to ask - with Joe Walsh
Deep in the far west of England you will find a young Irish coach with more than a passing interest in the maul. Joe Walsh is the Lead Forwards and Defence coach at the Cornish Pirates and he’s also a fantastic guy who is willing to share his knowledge to help us all understand what goes on in a maul. In this article you will see three videos and underneath each a voice recording where Walsh explains what we are seeing. Take a look at the videos and feel free to watch and rewatch as you listen to the explanation.

What are the principles of good maul attack?
What are the principles of good maul defence?
Why do Sale come out on top here?
Example 2 - Leicester Tigers v Sale Sharks (again….)
What do Leicester do well in this maul?
Example 3 - Bath v Newcastle Red Bulls
From start to finish can you tell us what Newcastle do well here?
Could Bath have done anything differently?
We hope you enjoyed that! If you want us to do further breakdowns like this, let us know what topics you’d be interested in us covering in the comments.

Well this is all class. Great work! Feels like not enough eyeballs on this sweet sweet content.
Sam is there any way one could purchase a signed copy of the new book? 👀
Us Cornish regard ourselves as just that, Cornish not the "far West of England". Interesting to note that, in addition to Joe, we have 2 or 3 Irish players currently on the books. Also our joint head coach, explayer and veteran of over 300 appearances in the front row, is a renowned student of the maul and scrum.
